Waste Watch: Heritage Minister's Sole Source Speech Contract Way Over Budget

Author: Kevin Gaudet 2010/04/19

No wonder the federal government has a large deficit. Even relatively small spending decisions go way off track.

Heritage Minister James Moore issued a sole-source one month contract last Fall to Ottawa's Creative Edge Communications for $15,561.00 for 'professional communications services not offered elsewhere'. The cost went up 72% to $26,825.54. Not bad for one month of work: more than the PM makes!

Doesn't the Minister have a staff and a whole department to write for him?

Here is a link to the Minister's proactive disclosures showing the contract:

Interestingly, it turns out, Creative Edge Communications is speech writer Neil Kelly, who has written for;

Sheila Finestone, Brian Tobin, John Manley, Hedy Fry and Jean Chretien.

The more things change, the more they stay the same; at least for Heritage Ministers.
